Time Trial

As we are an affiliated club to "Cycling Time Trials" all fully paid up Falmouth Wheelers club members can enter almost any "type A" open events and we will be welcome at most "type B" club events.

Please see:www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk for full rules & regs.

For this years local events please go to:
http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/events and select South West district.

Falmouth wheelers are now affiliated to the National Time Trial body.

So members can take part in time trial events, without having to join a different cycling club.

Club contact is Trevor 2 :

One of the best websites for getting time trial information is:

Wheelers Fun Time Trial 6th November 2016

With the Met office forecasting very heavy showers it was hardly surprising that only 11 willing riders lined up to start the club’s 5th annual 10 mile time trial.

With Shane & Raymond marshalling the roundabout at Mawgan first away from Zoar garage was Sonjia who although having spent the preceding evening dancing the night away was expected to post the fastest time in the great grandmothers class, with Phil the fastest club member from last year having the honour to start last.

With the 4 times champion Amanda away there was a guarantee of a new winner among the ladies which was taken in a new club record time* by Emma

In the testosterone fuelled men’s class it was a close finish between young Ben who set a new club record time* only to have it bettered by 3 seconds by the slightly older next man across the line Robin.

It must have been a hard year for all those who competed this year and last, as only Caroline was able to improve her time.

I would like to thank Shane & Ray for their help, all the riders for taking part, other club member who rode over to encourage the riders and for Roskillys for the much faster service than we got at last year’s chosen café.

Time trial 2015

With 2014’s time trial shorten to 6.5 miles on safety grounds it was back to a full 10 mile course for 2015. 17 riders left at one minute intervals from Zoar Garage, Nr St Keverne heading towards Mawgan roundabout where they were marshalled by Shane who was on the turn.

First away but not the first to return was Richard 72⅞ who was rather disappointed to have not posted the slowest male time of the day, unfortunately this accolade he left for Brian. Fastest club member was Phil “the bullet” Bartlett who was pipped for best time of the day by young 19yr old Falmouth University student Luke “the king” Lear. Amanda retained her ladies crown for a fourth straight year with Caroline smashing her own personal best 10 mile time by over three minutes.

With all 17 competitors times confirmed by £5 Jim it was then on to the pre-booked Fat Apples Cafe, Porthhallow who even though they knew of our arrival still found feeding 20 hungry cyclist rather overwhelming.

A big thank you from Shane and me for everybody who helped and participated, next year we hope to return to this same course. Trevor 2

Wheelers Fun Time Trial 12th October 2014

With the clubs fun time trial being a month later than usual it wasn’t surprising that after riding the previous year’s 10 mile course we found parts to be far too slippery so Shane and I decided that we would offer a shorter approximately 6.5 mile out & back course this year starting at the old travellers camp near to Traboe Cross with the turn at Mawgan roundabout.

With Shane & Jan controlling the roundabout Raymond was the first away with others leaving at minute intervals with Ian the last away, the late but not late enough to get away with not joining in Trevarno Dave was sent on his way four minutes later to make the number of contestants up to fourteen a few down on previous years.

Unfortunately only thirteen riders returned to the start to set a time with pre race favourite Chris having a major disaster with his rear mech leaving Robin to take the overall best time of the day by nearly 2 minutes from his nearest rival with Amanda the fastest lady for the third year, with all riders and helpers back at the start it was decided to go to the Polpeor cafe on the Lizard and not the advertised cafe stop so apologies to anyone who went to Roskillys expecting to find us.

A big thank you from Shane and me for everybody who turned up and took part, next year we hope to return to a full ten mile route starting nearer to St Keverne with the same turn as this year but we would like to see some more ladies taking part and challenging Amanda.

P.S.     While at the cafe we heard a rumour that their speciality was a very, very expensive carrot cake with the powers to mask the blatant use of real ale and other performance improving alcoholic substances being left undetected in UCI anti-doping tested cyclists which just might explain the winning time difference between riders on a recent local time trial.

Wheelers Time Trial 13th September 2013

Sixteen riders met for our annual time trial at Goonhilly Downs Nature Reserve car park. The weather conditions were overcast with no wind but slippery from overnight rain. This year’s route was set out by the Helston Mafia and was exactly 10 miles with all left turns. First rider away was Charlie on the new start line followed at minute intervals by the other 15 riders. The youngest was 8 year old Carn Edwards son of Lee one of our new Wednesday night riders, the oldest riders being 70 (not mentioning any names) This year there was a new sprint finish line which was just back from the cross roads to Kruggar. Tessa was the only rider who had a tumble but thankfully she was OK. The fastest male rider was Phil Eagles and our fastest lady rider was Amanda. The hardest task of the day was trying to find a coffee and cake stop, the cafe in the old Earth Station had no cake so we all decided to go to the Grange but it is now under new management and does not open until 12 noon. Riders finally got coffee at the Waymarker. Overall another enjoyable Wheelers outing. Thanks to all who turned up and took part.
